JUSSI KIVI (FI)
Moon Woods (2017)
Jussi Kivi created this nocturnal scenery by combining synthetic and natural materials. The inspiration for the work is linked to the numerous excursions and expeditions the artist has done in the Northern European woods. The work is channeling the concept of solastalgia: a condition of existential distress and alienation from one’s most immediate surroundings caused by climate change. Jussi Kivi’s practice is rooted in the empirical research of fringe areas, such as underground tunnels and caves, or abandoned military bases. The artist contemplates on the declined state of our environment. Jussi Kivi is a member of Mustarinda, an association fostering sustainable values and lifestyle, ecological and cultural diversity through contemporary art and science.
