A Picture of the Universe in Clock Time (2017)

Abigail DeVille’s work is concerned with loss, displacement, marginalization, perseverance and strength through sprawling sculptures and site-specific installations functioning as makeshift monuments. DeVille is a cross between an artist, a historian, and an archeologist who sources her material from local history, literature, and dumpsters. Searching for connections between our past and our present, DeVille seeks to access the many twists and turns that history makes and that humans both shape and are a victim of. Her new work A Picture of the Universe in Clock Time is related to time and the universe. At the edge of the universe, time stands still, which means nothing would be there. No material object can exist without time. The edge becomes a gradual fading away to a nothingness of non-existence. Our galaxy is the same as that seen in this infinite unbounded universe.
