Untitled (Carrier) (2006)

Jone Kvie uses familiar materials such as wood pulp, marble, bronze, and aluminum to create sculptures that mimic the forces in nature and the natural dramas of outer space. Kvie is interested in the complexity of the universe and the human condition, and he examines the expression of our desire to understand and explore the universe. In the work Untitled (Carrier), a bronze sculpture of a kneeling astronaut, Kvie questions the human experience in response to the vast universe. Are we rendered powerless and fearful or is it a peaceful bowing down to something bigger than ourselves?
